Beautification

 

The Beautification Internship will mostly assist with the development and restoration of community gardens and natural green space.

Up to 2 interns are selected for this position per semester.

Please note you will be participating in outdoor activities with this position.

Past Projects:

  • Mapped new trees planted around Pinellas County from KPB

  • Created a variety of resource guides

  • Assessed the new trees planted

  • Supported plantings

 

Educational Programming

 

The Educational Program Development Internship includes assessing and expanding the structure of current educational programming, researching new programs and educational techniques, implementing educational programming during in field outreach programs.

Up to 2 interns will be selected for this role per semester.

We work with grades k-12 in education (aside from educating the general public) please state which age group you’d like to work with in application (k-8 or older ages).

Level 1 Background check with Pinellas County Schools may be required.

K-8 Past Projects:

  • Assisted with school presentations

  • Created educational games

  • Designed “Waste and Place” lessons

Older Ages Past Projects:

  • Worked with high school workshops

  • Ran career fair outreach tables

  • Created “Coastal Habitats” flip book

Environmental Conservation

 

The Environmental Conservation Internship will consist of assisting with in field conservation efforts and identifying new projects within the community (i.e. Cleanups, hotline calls, data collection, invasive species removal, etc.).

Up to 1 intern is selected for this role per semester.

This position centers around developing personal projects within the field that provide meaningful hands-on experience and serve as strong additions to your professional portfolio.

Past Projects:

  • Created the informational magazines

  • Helped with mapping the litter collected by KPB

  • Participated in volunteer leadership events

Event Preparation

 

The Event Preparation Intern will organize material preparation for weekly cleanups/projects, maintain organization resources and supplies, assist with day of activities of cleanups/projects.

Up to 1 intern is selected for this position per semester.

Past Projects:

  • Assisted with prepping for the Annual Luncheon

  • Prepped the outreach table at events KPB is featured in

  • Oversaw supply and data management around the office

Executive Assistance

 

The Executive Intern will primarily be involved with in-office tasks related to office management, networking, fundraising, and organization in association with an environmental non-profit; assisting the Executive Director and the Deputy Director to implement major projects and maintain day-to-day functions.

Up to 1 intern is selected for this role per semester.

Past Projects:

  • Created drafts for donation letters

  • Assisted with achieving charitable seals (Candid, Charity Navigator, etc.)

  • Created charitable designation criteria

  • Supported special events and fundraisers

Development (Grants/Fundraising)

 

The Development Intern will be identifying and investigating grants of interest for the organization and assisting the Program Director in the writing of chosen grants. During off-season, intern will also perform tasks including researching potential partnership, sponsorships, and donations. They will also solicit donations, do pickups and canvas potential partnership locations.

Up to 1 intern is selected for this role per semester.

 Plastics

 

The Plastics Program Intern will help run a unique and innovative recycling program focused on the collection of plastics that would otherwise be sent to the trash. This program involves breaking down and remaking these plastics into new materials using injection molding. They will also help to manage program volunteers and data, develop outreach programming, identify routes for program expansion and deeper community engagement, and develop and implement educational curriculum and presentations related to the topic of plastics. Additionally, Plastics interns will get training and insight into the Florida Microplastics Awareness Project, a citizen science program involving studying local water samples in a laboratory setting to gain insight on the dangers of single-use plastics.

Up to 2 interns are selected for this role per semester.

Applicants with lab experience preferred but not required.

Social Media Marketing

 

Social Media Journalist will help develop daily posts for media platforms, maintain event blogs, create graphic design flyers for catalogs, events, and other department needs.

Up to 2 interns are selected for this role per semester.

Examples of related work are required with application.

Past Projects:

  • Created graphic design flyers and stickers for events, programs, and other educational needs

  • Wrote blogs for the website on various related topics

  • Worked closely with Video Creation intern and overseeing social media platforms

Video Creation

 

The Video Production Intern will help brainstorm, outline, write, film, and edit educational and promotional videos for Keep Pinellas Beautiful which will be featured on our website and all of our social media platforms.

Up to 1 intern is selected for this position per semester.

  • Compiled drone footage from different events

  • Polished demo reel

  • Captured the ambassador interview videos

 

Website Development

 

The Website Development Intern will help design, recommend, and pitch improvements to new and existing features of the KPB website. Other tasks will also include updating and editing website content, posts, and pages on other websites such as Eventbrite and community calendars.

Up to 1 intern is selected per semester.

Examples of related work are required with application.

Past Projects:

  • Updated webpages (memberships, sponsors, etc..) throughout the site to reflect new content

  • Created suggestions for user web flow

  • Implemented knowledge from field work (beach cleanups, outreach events, etc..) to the website
